Rubondo Island National Park

A forested island sanctuary on Lake Victoria - chimpanzees, birds and untouched shores.
About the Park

Welcome to Rubondo Island National Park

**Rubondo Island National Park** is one of Tanzania’s best-kept secrets - a forested island sanctuary set in the southwestern corner of **Lake Victoria**, Africa’s largest lake. Almost entirely covered in evergreen forest and ringed by quiet, sandy beaches, it offers a completely different kind of safari.

Rubondo is best known for its **chimpanzee** population, part of a pioneering rewilding project, and habituation walks now let visitors track them through the forest. The island is also a birder’s paradise, with fish eagles, kingfishers and hundreds of resident and migratory species, while its waters hold hippo, crocodile and huge Nile perch. For travellers seeking tranquillity and something truly off the beaten track, few places compare.
